If we remove gluten for 3 weeks, and have problems when we reintroduce it, could this also because we have removed it for three weeks or more (our gut ecology changes), not because we have a problem with it?

In podcast #2 about the Myer’s way, we talked about Leaky Gut and testing. You said that food sensitivity testing is accurate but When you test for food sensitivities and have leaky gut, foods that you eat often might show up, you have the example of spinach, when you create a person elimination diet, do you remove all the foods that have triggered a response?

So if we discover we have an issue, what do we do next? How do we deal with this?

Let’s go deeper into the gluten question. Let’s say I have removed gluten, but I’m still experiencing symptoms, maybe after have dairy or coffee. What’s going on?

What is cross-reactivity and how does it work?

Most common cross-reactive foods?

Now if you do have severe symptoms, have you had patients who needed to remove all those foods.

Is there any rule of thumb for how long someone needs to remove these foods?

So I’ve removed all these foods, how do I know if I am “healed” from leaky gut?

 

Hidden Sources of Gluten

In your guide, you talk about the hidden sources of gluten. This is something that you really emphasize. Some of the examples you cite are shampoos, medications, playdough, even stamps.

    I THINK I learned I was gluten intolerant when I stopped eating anything that contained gluten and felt muuuch better. For a couple of weeks. Then all my symptoms started coming back and I got extremely frustrated again. I’ve never been tested because I don’t have the health insurance or the money. Although I will breaking what little bank we have in a few weeks to see a our income doctors. I am in the process right now of healing my gut from leaky gut and my belly has never felt better. I am terrified that my body will react poorly to the foods I have cut out (when I bring them back), and I’m not sure what to do about it if my body does react. Do I try again? Or do I rule them out immediately? Will my body repair from some of the things it once react to, and will no longer react after I fix my gut. When do I know ym gut is fixed? I am worried that I’m doing everything for nothing. All I DO know is that something is definitely wrong with my gut.

      Great. keep the other foods out as long as you can and add in and see how you feel. THey only way to truly know if your gut is healed is by testing. Sounds like you are well on your way!

    Loved this info, Thank you Dr. Amy, my only concern was at the end of the pod cast when you were talking about restaurants and the oils they use. You mentioned that one restaurant used olive oil in the fryer, as a good thing and maybe so to stay away from gluten cross contamination, but olive oil isn’t an oil that should be used for high heat, it’s actaully oxidizes at high temps & causes inflammation :-(…..they should try coconut oil :)

      yes, that’s true! but it’s a ‘fast food ‘ place and to eat a few times a year is all I do
